上信電鉄・上州富岡駅舎の改築設計コンペ応募案。周辺に点在する公共施設群の老朽化に伴い、駅を中心とした地域拠点の再整備を行うこととなった。建替えに際しては、世界遺産登録を目指す富岡製糸場への玄関口にふさわしい駅舎とすることが求められた。我々が提案したのは、富岡に暮らす人々と訪れる人々をやさしく包み込み、年月を重ねることで美しい飴色に変わっていく木造の大屋根をもつ駅舎である。富岡製糸場がそうであるように、余分なものをそぎ落とした単純明快で構造体そのもののようなこの駅舎が、時を経て富岡のまちの新しいシンボルとなることを意図した。

A proposal for a competition to rebuild the Joshin Dentetsu Joshu-Tomioka Station building The decision was made to redevelop the regional hub, at which the station was the center, along with the aging of the surrounding public facilities. A station building suitable as the gateway to the Tomioka Silk Mill, which is aiming to be recognized as a World Heritage site, was required. We proposed a station building with a large wooden roof which will change to a beautiful reddish-yellow over the years that gently encloses the visitors and people who live in Tomioka. Just like the Tomioka Silk Mill, this station building, a straightforward structure trimmed of excess, was intended to become the new symbol of Tomioka City over time.
